Get Involved

Whether a complete beginner or seasoned paddler the club has many ways of helping local people get on the water. Our aim is simply to encourage and support paddlers as they enjoy the sport we all love so much.

Our regular sessions and trips are intended to be fun and enjoyable, we apply no pressure and there is no competitive element. A typical session will include paddlers of all abilities and ages in a variety of boats.

To get you started, if you don’t have your own boat and equipment, we have a selection of boats and kit available to hire at a reasonable cost. All money collected from kit hire is reinvested to ensure our equipment is modern and serviceable.

Saturday Mornings

We are now operating from Saltford Sailing club (after relocating from the parking up on the Shallows due to parking restrictions).

Saturday paddle takes place on the first Saturday of the month, unless otherwise advised and meets up at 10.00am. Beginners are very welcome. Get in touch so we know who to expect and which kit we need to bring.

They are a short ‘out and back’ paddle based somewhere close to our base in Bristol. For club members, it’s an opportunity to catch up with friends and get some fresh air. Organisation is straight forward – meet up, sort out kit required and agree which way we’re paddling (upstream / downstream). Then get on with it. Once we’re finished, some of us may retire to the local pub for a refreshing drink and a sandwich to plan the next bunch of trips.

Session Costs:
  • Members with their own kit – Free
  • Members needing to borrow kit – £5
  • Non-Members – £10 (includes kit if needed)

Tuesday Evening paddles

We are now operating from Saltford Sailing Club, on Tuesday evenings.

Tuesday evening is the weekly club social and training session. This takes place at the Shallows, Saltford and runs between early spring and late autumn at 18:30. The sessions are laid back and casual, the emphasis being on socialising, having fun and getting some exercise.

Activities generally include but are not restricted to –

  • A short trip up or downstream
  • Playing in the whitewater at the weir
  • Informal coaching as requested
  • Introductions to SUP, kayak or canoe
  • Swimming and generally messing about

Beginners and non-members are very welcome, but please get in touch beforehand so we can plan the session accordingly.
