Canoeing

At NACC we have a significant number of members that both enjoy and run trips for canoeists (Canadian canoes), including canoe sailing, multi-day trips, OC1 and white water trips.

Every year we run training sessions intended to take the complete beginner to a point where they are both capable and comfortable paddling a canoe on easy moving water trips. These cover the basic techniques for paddling, what to do if things don’t go to plan and overall just having fun and being safe. This can lead to a British Canoeing (BC) Discover or Explore Award assessed by one of our qualified coaches.

If you have the basics and want to improve, our experienced coaches will help you work on and refine your technique, hone your skills and push your boundaries to the next level. Whilst we don’t, currently, assess the BC performance awards we can certainly make sure you are ready and confident to take them. Our experienced coaches and trip leaders will be more than happy to help you grow and develop your abilities.

If you’re interested in running rapids or white water in a canoe, then you’ll find that on many of our trips there are, not just kayakers, but also a contingent of canoe or OC1 paddlers going along to enjoy the day.

Alternatively if you’re looking to get away from everything and disappear into the wilds, we usually organise one or two multi-day trips each year down rivers, across lakes/lochs taking our kit with us in our boats.
