On the weekend of the 20th and 21st June I decided to have a go at slalom. Where better to try it than at the Langham Farm Slalom run by Frome CC? The course is on the flat with a bit of flow, a great introduction to slalom. We turned up, playboats on the roof not knowing what to expect.
I signed in and I was offered a C1 and K1 slalom boat to paddle... now I had a chance of winning. Because I had never done it before I started in Div 4 for K1 and C1. I had 2 runs, best one counting. I did really well in my K1 and would have beaten all the Div 3 people if I had been in that class. In the C1 I also did really well. It was a good feeling being a playboater giving everyone a master class. I got promoted in both categories to Div 3. I really enjoyed the day so I came back on the Sunday. I had learnt some lessons from the day before... don't do loads of official practice runs, they really made me tired, especially doing 2 events. This time I got 100 points in the C1 class and came 4th in K1 because of 3 penalties. I really enjoyed the event and cant wait to enter my next competition. See you on the water
