Brecon White Water weekend

3 Star White Water Group

Instructor Ralph
Victims Kevin, Brendan, Tim, Stuart, Nick, & Ed who was with us, to keep an eye on us all.

Me (Kevin) and Brendan got there early on the Friday so our white water weekend started early with a beer at the pub to kill some time.

Back at the bunkhouse more people started to arrive, so after some coffee and tea we then got down to the business at hand.. Theory sessions which were very informative and helpful.

Saturday

Our group headed up to the Usk River to paddle the sennybridge run, first off Ralph gave us the relevant info so we'd all know what was happening, and then we all got onto the water which was flowing fast.

First off Ralph got us to practise breaking in & out of the eddy's, with that done we headed off down river.

On the run down river we came to the 1st of three drops, so we all stopped and got out for a look to asses the safest route to take if it was safe at all to run. With the insight and knowledge from Ralph we chose our routes to take, only one swimmer (Stuart) at this drop.

After lots of standing waves we came to the 2nd drop, again we got out to choose our routes and to make sure it was safe. Again we had one swimmer (Stuart) which kept us entertained.

Some white water to play on and wave surfing all the way down the river we came to the 3rd drop, again all out to check its safe and chose routes. One of are group decided to portage (I'm sure it would have been OK Stuart), so after running it we carried on down river. Not far down river we found some standing waves to play on where one of the group went for a swim after catching his edge (Stuart).

Ralph then got us practising ferry gliding forward and backwards before heading to the egress point.

Back at the bunkhouse more theory and early to bed ready for the next day.

Ok ok they was some drinking then bed..

Ok lots of drinking then bed..

Sunday

Water levels where looking a bit high, so we headed off to the dangerous white water canal...

Where we were put through ourpaces by Ralph covering rolls, rescues and various strokes.

Once back at the bunkhouse Ralph told us we'd passed on both days of the trip and was happy to tell us we all passed our 3 Star. Well done all

Big thanks to Ralph

And to all the organiser

And a big thanks to Carla for the great food.

Thanks all

Kevin
