Training - Pool Sessions

Most months the club runs a pool session for members and those about to join the club.  You can find us at the Yate Leisure Centre, between 6.15 and 8.15pm on a Saturday evening.  These sessions provide an excellent opportunity to try the sport, gain confidence or brush up on your rolling skills.

Club members will know that North Avon paddlers are not afraid of throwing themselves into a river or two, but there are few better places to develop your roll than a nice warm (at least warmer than a river in January) and clean pool.  Sessions are split into 4 x 30 minute periods with up to 20 canoes and kayaks in the pool.  There's a charge of £3 per session payable at the desk poolside which covers the cost of the session and the hire of a kayak, paddle and spraydeck.  (If you've never been before bring a t-shirt or rash vest to wear on top of your swimming costume - it'll help to keep you warm.)

At most sessions there are a couple of coaches available to help explain the best way to develop whatever new skill you want to learn.  They're easy to spot - they'll be wearing a bright blue rash vest!  If you have a question or would like some help - just ask one of us....

POOL RULES. - Sorry guys but we have to have some.

  1. You cannot book in advance.
  2. You cannot book more than two sessions initially.
  3. If you bring your own boat it must be clean.
  4. Others can try your boat when it's not your session.
  5. Private boats should ONLY come in & out of the pool area at the same time & same place as the club boats. Help with moving the club boats should be offered.

IN THE POOL

  1. NO SWIMMING. It's not a swim session, a boat can give your ribs a good bruise.
  2. NO SEAL LAUNCHING. This is a condition of pool hire.
  3. Users should empty boats at the end of their sessions.
  4. At the end of the last session emptied boats should be taken towards the exit door.
