Paddling

Information about the various kinds of paddling we do at Northavon Canoe Club.

  • Whitewater Kayaking   ( 5 Articles )

One of the most popular forms of paddling pursued by our members is whitewater touring.  Having Saltford weir so close to our summer training venue, we will encourage you try your hand at paddling on moving water as soon as you’ve mastered the basics.

  • Open Canoeing   ( 1 Article )

The club is very active in encouraging paddlers to try Canadian Canoeing.Whether you fancy longer paddles and an overnight camp, a leisurely day trip or the excitement of taking a classic open canoe down a Grade II (and occasionally Grade III) then we’re the club for you.

Every training weekend includes specialist coaching for the Open Canadians as well as offering kayakers a chance to paddle something different.

  • Sea Kayaking   ( 3 Articles )

Bristol is a great place to start sea kayaking - the Bristol Channel has one of the biggest tidal ranges in the world and that means fast tides. Last year the club members paddled around the upper estuary, to Flatholm for a training weekend and even spent a week paddling round the Isles of Scily.

  • Flatwater and Touring   ( 0 Articles )

If you prefer the peace and tranquillity of a quiet river then training with North Avon Canoe Club will help you develop a strong forward paddling technique to help you get the most from your paddling.

  • Freestyle   ( 3 Articles )

Acrobatics in a canoe! - pick your wave and throw as many tricks as you can in 45 seconds. North Avon has a thriving group of paddlers developing their freestyle paddling. The group take part in regular competitions including the Alpkit series and the BCU Youth Freestyle Series.
