DW Race 2nd-5th April 2010
I'm looking for 1 or 2 volunteers to help me support a Canadian pair racing in the C2 class of the Devizes to Westminster Race this Easter. The race is 125 miles non stop with approx 75 portages. It runs along the Kennet and Avon Canal before joing the Thames at Reading. I did this in 2007 and our Canadian team set a new C2 record of 18 hours 40 minutes. Unfortunately, the Texan team that we supported in 2008 took a little longer at 24 hours and 35 seconds! The commitment is from Saturday (3rd April) lunchtime through to the finish, whenever that is. Our team are racing to win so we are hoping for a good time and will hope to finish before lunch time on Sunday. No messing at the end; we will come straight home for a rest. Supporting a team involves racing ahead of them in a van to the next portage point and making sure that they have food, drink and anything else that they need when they get to us. Hard work, believe me, and you will loose a night's sleep - but it's worth it. |
