This year's AGM is taking place on Saturday 28th January at 7.30 (just after the pool session). Taking place at The Lawns Inn, BS37 5BG. For more info see the website.
Like many others from NACC this summer, I ran this fantastic 90km solo in sea kayak, rough camping over 2.5 days in early September. I had fantastic weather - 24 slides to summarise are here:
But you really must do this trip sometime - just get the SCA guide (Google took me straight there), it has all the info you need (and almost nothing else to bore you!). SCA knock the pants off Canoe England!
Unfortunately I am never going to get around to putting together a proper article for Claire and my trip up the Great Glen. So I have attached a link to the Facebook photos and comments in case anyone is interested. It was an amazing trip and I would really recommend it!
During a stormy week at St Davids during the summer holidays Sam and I went surfing. Sam got his head cam out and we took turns surfing the wave looking at each other.
For those who have been paddling on the sea with Wayne or myself will have experienced the usefulness of 'proper' sea kayaks. On this note I can inform you that we have just taken delivery of two new P&H Scorpio sea kayaks, one of which had its first showing last Saturday night at Biblins.
These craft are for hire by club members for use on sea trips or even for touring on the rivers.
With a far from cheerful weather forecast for the weekend ahead, it was with considerable trepidation that I got myself ready for my first ever sea kayaking trip- a weekend based on Flatholm in the Bristol Channel led by Ralph. Michael, Esther and I arrived at our departure point and met up with our fellow paddlers, T,Anna, Steph, Stuart, Ralph and Wayne, in Weston-Super-Mare only to find that our access to the slipway was barred due to the adjacent hotel having burned down in the night, not a terribly encouraging start! However, we easily found somewhere else from which to set off and so, after loading up the boats with all our provisions and kit for the weekend, were soon on our way. Flatholm didn't look too far away at all - amazing how deceptive distances are at sea!
At the Nene YFS Matt Chadder invited me up to HPP on the weekend of GB team training to be a BCU guinea-pig (this time for the 4* freestyle) and get some coaching with the team. I said yes, so Mum and I found ourselves driving up to HPP on a chilly (for the summer!) Saturday morning. This was my first experience of team training. In the morning we did the theory for the 4* (reminded me of why I am pleased I have done all my star awards) and in the afternoon we hit the water. I thought it was a great award and anyone who is looking to get into freestyle who can do some of the basic moves such as loops and cartwheels will really enjoy it.
