If anyone is interested in Level 1 Coaching course, please contact me urgently (if not already done so). At the moment, it looks positive that a course will be booked mid / end April.
The club is based just north of Bristol and prides itself on being a friendly, fun loving family club that takes a pride in developing paddlers’ skills. We paddle on a number of rivers throughout the region and regularly run trips to other great destinations throughout the UK and Europe.
We have paddlers of all ages and abilities. Beginners are encouraged to take up the sport, develop their confidence and learn new skills. For more experienced paddlers we offer the opportunity to develop your skills or have fun on the water with other paddlers. We have an active coaching programme that aims to help paddlers develop the skills they need to go paddling in a safe and enjoyable way.
Whether you want paddle kayaks or canadians, take on the challenge of white water, surf, the open sea or just enjoy a quiet paddle down one of our beautiful rivers we will have something for you.
With more than 130 members, an active programme of trips and courses and a large fleet of canoes and kayaks we are able to help beginners get started in this fantastic sport and more experienced paddlers try something new.
If you can’t find the information you’re looking for on this website, would just like to speak to a human being, or would like to give us some feedback please contact Nigel.
First of all I'd like to thank Nigel as the outgoing chairman for all the work and dedication he has put in over the years.
Now Nigel can get on with his mission to convert all us kayakers to open boaters.
So on to more about me......
To start with I'd like to quote you one of my favourite sayings "I live with fear everyday but sometimes she lets me go kayaking"
On and off I've been kayaking since I was in the cubs, but over recent years I've found a passion for white water.
I know within the club we have lots of open boaters & sea kayakers and I look forward to having ago at both skills more this year, but no matter how much I try I will have to leave the tail squirts and cartwheels to the fun boat paddlers, most being our younger members, oh and Brendan !!!!!
So on a closing note feel free to approach me anytime to ask anything, and I will do my best help you out.
Once again from myself and I'm sure all members a big thanks to Nigel.
7am on a Sunday is a time that I rarely see. However, Ralph had mustered a seakayaking trip, meeting at Seamills ready to paddle at for 7:30am. As a newcomer to seakayaking and a stranger to the locale around Seamills I met up with Wayne at around 7:10. An interesting little journey followed, wriggling through the outskirts of Bristol to meetup underneath the road bridge close to the river Trym which joins the Avon as it makes its way up to Avonmouth.
In August, I went on my first sea kayaking trip. I was looking forward to the expedition nature of it and to a good day's exercise, but what I wasn't expecting was the exhilarating nature of the paddle!
As we were packing our boats, I learnt that due to the volume of these boats and being designed to be paddled fully loaded, sea kayakers do day trips in luxury! I clearly didn't have enough 'stuff'!
Being of sound mind..... or something like that, I booked on the open canoe beginners course on the white water weekend.
After the compulsory purchase of a thermal rash vest and the borrowing of a decent kag from Steph (thanks!), I was as ready as I was ever going to be. With Nigel leading, Richard, Brian and I got in from a muddy (did I mention it had rained a lot?) Sennybridge field.
Like several others Amanda and I took a trip through the Great Glen by canoe this summer. And... like the others I have yet to find time to write a decent article. But I have select a few pictures of the trip that you might be interested in.
